1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner

    The Skyliner, the first convertible with a retractable hardtop instead of a fabric roof, appeared in 1957. Enormously complicated, it contained 610 feet of electrical wire and required 40 seconds to raise or lower the lid. Trouble-prone and costing twice as much as a standard Ford, it lasted in production for only three years.
