谷歌在线广告业务的增长放缓不可避免,要抵消这一不利影响,关键在于寻找新的收入来源。而通过旗下应用商店Google Play销售应用程序、电视节目、电子书、音乐以及游戏,已成为谷歌的一项重要业务。

    在上周四的电话会议上,谷歌称已达成相关协议,将在Google Play平台上引进更多内容,包括来自哥伦比亚广播公司(CBS)和维亚康姆(Viacom)的电视节目。谷歌对于通过Google Play销售的内容抽取一部分佣金,其余收入则归应用程序开发者或内容版权持有人享有。

    谷歌首席财务官帕特里克•皮切特称,“应用程序和内容”业务使谷歌“其他收入”项的营收在二季度同比攀升53%,增至16亿美元。“其他收入”包括企业级业务,以及Chromebook电脑的销售。

    In the call Thursday, Google bragged about landing deals for more content in Play including access to television programs from CBS and Viacom . Google takes a commission on all sales through Play and gives the rest to app developers or copyright holders.

    Google CFO Patrick Pichette, credited “apps and content” for helping lift sales in the company’s “other revenues” in the quarter by 53% year-over-year to $1.6 billion. “Other revenues” include services for businesses along with sales of its Chromebook computers.

    “I think its important to step back and look at what the Google Play team has achieved,” explained Arora. “I mean its — it come from nowhere. It’s a phenomenal platform which provides services, apps, content around the world.”
